What is Scouting

Scouts South Africa Promotional Video – Learn it Young, Remember it Forever

Scouting in South Africa, recognised by the World Organization of the Scout Movement, is a youth development programme guiding young people towards becoming confident, responsible, and community‑oriented individuals.

The Scout Method: Core of the Learning Experience

At the heart of Scouting is the Scout Method, a system of informal, experiential education designed to develop character and lifelong skills. Scouts South Africa applies this through a blend of positive values (Promise & Law), hands‑on learning, small group leadership, and a varied, adventure‑based programme.

How Scouts Learn and Teach

Scouts South Africa’s teaching philosophy emphasises non‑formal education: real‑life challenges, peer learning and self‑directed progression rather than rote instruction.  All learning is grounded in experience: Scouts plan, do, reflect and grow.

Badges and advancement are structured to encourage personal ambition, goal‑setting and measurable development across physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual domains.
