Welcome to the 1st Midrand Scout Group. We are an active Scout Group based in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

⚜️ SCOUTING NEEDS ADULTS TOO!
1st Midrand Scout Group is growing — and as the number of young people enjoying Scouting grows, our adult volunteer team needs to grow with them.
With our AGM coming up, we’re asking our parents and families to have a look at the different ways you can contribute to the Group.
You might enjoy working directly with our Meerkats, Cubs or Scouts, or perhaps your skills are better suited to equipment, fundraising, administration, finances, marketing or social media. You can even help occasionally at camps, events or projects.
⏱️ Not every role requires a major time commitment.
What matters is having enough people each contributing what they can.
Please take a look at our Adult Roles infographic and ask yourself:
“Where could I contribute my time, skills or experience to 1st Midrand?”
Our young people get an extraordinary amount from Scouting — but it only happens because adults volunteer to make it possible.

Our 1st Midrand Meerkats had a wonderful time at Meerkat Mob Day 2026! 🐾💛

It was a fun-filled day of games, activities, friendship and adventure with Meerkats from across the district. Our youngest members joined in enthusiastically, made new friends and showed everyone how much courage and energy can fit into such little paws!

Thank you to the organisers and volunteers who made this special day possible.

🌍 **World Cleanup Day 2026** 🌱

The 1st Midrand Cub Pack took action for our community by cleaning up along Moerdyk Street towards Jamie Uys Street.

Armed with gloves, rubbish bags and plenty of enthusiasm, our Cubs worked alongside their leaders and parents to collect litter and help make our neighbourhood cleaner and greener. It was a wonderful opportunity to put the Cub Law into action through teamwork, responsible citizenship and care for the environment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to Alderwoman Annette Deppe for supporting the project.

1st Midrand Scout Group – Kim Shield 2026

What an adventure for our Scout Troop at Kim Shield 2026!

Our Rhinos, Bats and Kudus Patrols took on a demanding weekend of daytime and night-time bases designed to test their Scouting skills, problem-solving, leadership and teamwork.

The challenges included knotting, pioneering, observation, target activities, rescue skills, races, puzzles, water games and plenty of unusual surprises! After a full Saturday on the course, the Scouts prepared dinner before heading out again for the night bases. They were up early on Sunday to complete the final challenges before the closing parade and prize-giving.

Kim Shield called for careful planning, resilience, clear communication and genuine patrol spirit. We are tremendously proud of every Scout who participated and represented 1st Midrand with such courage, enthusiasm and determination.

Well done, Rhinos, Bats and Kudus, on a challenging, enjoyable and memorable weekend!

🐦 **Feathered Friends at 1st Midrand!** 🌿

Our Cubs have been busy working towards their **Birds Interest Badge**, learning about the birds that share our gardens and neighbourhoods—and how we can help care for them.

Using plenty of creativity and some recycled materials, each Cub designed and built a colourful bird feeder to take home. The real excitement begins when the feeders are hung outside and the Cubs can watch to see which feathered visitors arrive for a snack!

A wonderful morning of learning, creating and caring for nature—practical Scouting at its best. Well done, Cubs! 💙💛

We are incredibly proud to see our Scouts featured in the Rosebank Killarney Gazette following the 82nd anniversary commemoration of the Warsaw Flights.
Aashirya Sundarlal, Olivia Urry and patrol leader Tyler Kilbee assisted with the proceedings as dignitaries gathered to honour the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the South African airmen who flew vital supply missions to Warsaw in 1944.
Aashirya told the newspaper that she was honoured to help at such an important anniversary.
Taking part in occasions such as this gives our young people an opportunity to experience history firsthand and to demonstrate the Scout values of service, respect and remembrance.
Well done, Scouts—you represented 1st Midrand with pride! 🇿🇦🇵🇱

Small hands can make a big difference! Join the **1st Midrand Cub Pack** as we help clean up our neighbourhood and care for our environment.

Medical gloves and rubbish bags will be supplied. Cubs may bring their own gardening gloves or other suitable gloves if preferred.

🇿🇦 The road to Poland has begun! 🇵🇱

Scouts from across Gauteng, including members of 1st Midrand Scout Group, gathered at the DITSONG: National Museum of Military History in Johannesburg for the Gauteng launch of the South African Contingent to the 26th World Scout Jamboree.

From 30 July to 8 August 2027, thousands of Scouts from around the world will gather in Gdańsk, Poland, for an unforgettable celebration of adventure, friendship, culture and international Scouting.

It was wonderful to share in the excitement as preparations for this remarkable journey officially got under way. We look forward to following our contingent as they prepare to represent South Africa on the world stage.

The official badge of the South African Contingent to the 26th World Scout Jamboree has been unveiled!
Inspired by our national colours and proudly representing South Africa, the badge marks the beginning of an incredible journey to Gdańsk, Poland. From 30 July to 8 August 2027, thousands of Scouts from across the world will gather to share cultures, build friendships and experience the adventure of a lifetime.
Under the theme “Bravely”, the Jamboree will encourage young people to face the future with courage, curiosity and determination.
We cannot wait to see the South African flag flying in Poland and to follow our contingent on the road to the Jamboree!

This weekend, Scouts from 1st Midrand Scout Group

This weekend, Scouts from 1st Midrand Scout Group had the privilege of taking part in the Warsaw Flights Memorial Service in Johannesburg.
During the service, our Scouts assisted by presenting wreaths to the official wreath-layers. They were also honoured to lay a wreath on behalf of Scouts South Africa.
The annual commemoration remembers the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, when the Polish resistance fought to liberate Warsaw from German occupation. As the city’s defenders became increasingly isolated, Allied aircrews undertook exceptionally dangerous missions from bases in Italy to deliver desperately needed weapons, ammunition, food and medical supplies.
South African airmen from 31 and 34 Squadrons of the South African Air Force played a significant part in these flights. Flying long distances at night and at low altitude, they faced enemy fire and extremely difficult conditions. Many never returned.
The memorial service honours the courage and sacrifice of those airmen, as well as the bravery and resilience of the people of Warsaw.
We are proud of our Scouts for representing 1st Midrand and Scouts South Africa with dignity. Participating in a service such as this gives young people the opportunity not only to learn about history, but also to serve their community and help ensure that the sacrifices of previous generations are not forgotten.
We will remember them.
