Kontiki 2026
Written by Olivia Urry, Kudus Patrol, 1st Midrand
Kontiki this year was so much fun. Everyone was smiling and laughing the whole time.
The theme for this year was Animated Adventures and our scout group chose, drumroll please……
!!SHREK!!
We expected many people to do Shrek so we went above and beyond to impress the judges. Our Design Diva, Mikayla blew me away with all her awesome designs. She built so many cool things out of cardboard and recycled materials. From the castle to the awesome Midrand flags for the towers.

Our painting princess, Katelyn, painted super cool signs that read, ‘ Beware of the Ogre ’.

Of course we needed a little extra so we even had our donkey there.

While all this was brewing, the Tent team was making some magic. Right before our eyes, sleeping tents were popping up and then, with a bipity bopoty boo, the kitchen tent was up as well
Of course, we cannot forget our Working Warriors.
They built the table in record time and it was so big and beautiful. I was very happy about the table.
Meanwhile, on the bank of the dam, we had our building boys making quick work of their opponents. Fueled by horrid music, no sleep, food and support from their team, the carriage was ready. The fairy godmother, aka me, gave it a bit of magic and wished the team all of luck on their nights at sea. The inspection of the carriage was stressful but not for me, I knew everything would be fine.

The camp also got inspected and it was quite stressful. Smart Singers led us in some scout songs and yells while the judges patrolled like tigers. Our voices were hoarse by the end of it…

The raft looked all settled for the night and in the morning we sang some songs to them as per tradition. Getting myself out of the tent that early in the morning was hard!

We were all tired and yawning while we did some yells at closing. Everyone kept the energy high though. We also took a group photo after.

Kontiki was so amazing and what an experience to enjoy.
Be prepared,
Yours in scouting,
