Kontiki 2023

Written by Jillian Govender (Patrol Leader) Rhinos.

Kon-Tiki is a unique camp where we devote months to planning everything from our menu to our raft design. Our planning began in early February, and we spent hours choosing decorations, practicing our pioneering, and creating our war cry.

For the first time in forever it did not rain, however the cold weather did not disappoint. When our raft got stuck in the sludge; in the true spirit of scouting; our Scouters jumped in without hesitation and pushed the raft further into the dam. The Kon-Tiki experience was highly enjoyable and entertaining and encompassed a range of exciting activities such as the beaver challenge, construction of our gateway, and ultimately culminating in the successful launch of our raft.

The Cubs who took part in our beaver challenge enjoyed it and we were very happy when they extended invitations to their friends. Achieving the 2nd position in the Beaver Challenge proved to be a significantly commendable feat for our troop. Despite possessing a relatively youthful land crew, they successfully secured the 8th position out of a total of 47 troops that competed (We placed 10th overall).  An accomplishment that we are extremely proud of.
